Music Appreciation

Ann and Lee Strong will finish surveying music from the Modern era of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and then embark on the “Origin, Development and History of Rock and Roll.” We’ll learn about and sample some of the early 20thcentury music that led to the advent of the genre, then discuss its evolution through the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s, sampling the music of Count Basie, Elvis, and Joan Baez, with an emphasis on the cultural and sociological factors that influenced the music (and vice versa).
